Fashion frenzy down under
Australian fashionistas have gone crazy for Stella McCartney after the Brit designer launched her new range in high street store Target on Monday.
Hundreds of women queued up outside the stores and fights broke out between shoppers desperate to get their hands on the hottest numbers.
The new range includes both dressed up and casual clothes and accessories, with one particularly sought-after number said to be a trench coat, available at a much lower price than most pieces from the designer.
According to media reports, many stores were left bare within minutes of the new range opening, and after most of the items had gone, shoppers turned to the mannequins, stripping them of their clothing.
Target clothing manager Larice Lewis admitted that the reaction from the Australian public had "surpassed our wildest expectations".
Many shoppers were spending hundreds of dollars at the stores, while others were randomly grabbing clothing in the wrong sizes, with many items having already appeared on the internet for sale or swap.
Some shoppers may be anticipating similar scenes in the UK with the upcoming launch of several celebrity fashion lines, including Kate Moss's Topshop collection in May and Madonna's M by Madonna range for H&M, set to be unveiled later this month.
